What ⥲ means
It marks a relation defined by the formula. ⥲ combines a rightward arrow with a tilde-like relation mark. In a formula, the surrounding notation or the author’s legend supplies the specific reading; the symbol has no agreed meaning on its own. Its shape alone does not tell you whether the relation is approximation, similarity, or something else.
Unicode encoding is not the notation’s origin
In Unicode’s symbol chart, ⥲ is grouped with arrows combined with relation marks and paired with ⭁, a left-pointing form with a reversed tilde. The wider supplemental mathematical-symbol repertoire supports MathML, markup for displaying formulas, formula-editing software, symbolic algebra, and ISO mathematical entity sets—named collections of symbols for mathematics and science. Unicode standardized ⥲ in 2002; that marks its computer encoding, not the start of the underlying notation.
Specialist mathematical notation; its reading comes from the convention that defines it.
Do not read the tilde as “approximately” unless that notation defines it that way.

1Why does ⥲ look different in different fonts?
Font-dependent. Fonts can shape the arrowhead and tilde differently. If a font lacks ⥲, a fallback font may draw it in a visibly different style or show a missing-glyph box.

A visible symbol can contain several code points. JS .length counts UTF-16 units; UTF-8 counts bytes.
