What 🢑 means
It marks upward direction as the head of a drawn arrow.
The 2012 Unicode character-list proposal labels it “draw up” and groups it with head-only marks pointing left, right, and down. In a diagram, nearby lines or labels supply each arrowhead’s target.
The Wingdings fonts were designed in 1990–91 and released as Microsoft Wingdings in 1992, as a coordinated set of icons for computers and on-screen controls. Wingdings 3’s “drawup” mapping is the font-specific predecessor of this Unicode character.
Use it where its target is clear
The arrowhead gives direction but has no shaft or label. In a diagram, nearby lines or words can show what it points to; by itself in a message, it can look like an unexplained technical mark.
Why does 🢑 sometimes show as a box?
The selected font may not contain its glyph.
The result depends on font coverage: an app using a font without this character can show a missing-character box or another fallback shape.
Older Wingdings 3 documents may depend on a font-specific mapping, so changing fonts can alter how the stored text appears. Unicode text does not require that Wingdings 3 mapping.
A technical diagram mark with a terse, directional tone.
Alone in chat, it can look like unexplained notation.

1Can I turn old Wingdings 3 text into this Unicode character?
Not just by changing the font. An old document may rely on Wingdings 3’s font-specific mapping; converting the stored text to the Unicode character makes it independent of that font.

A visible symbol can contain several code points. JS .length counts UTF-16 units; UTF-8 counts bytes.
