What ⭫ means
Up, often with a hint that the move is indirect or projected.
Every part of the name is in the picture: the arrow points upwards, its head is a filled triangle rather than two open strokes, and its shaft is dashed. In many drawing and charting conventions, a solid line is the main connection and a dashed line is a weaker one: a dependency, a hidden path, a projected value, something that may happen or happens indirectly. The exact meaning is set by each diagram's own key. ⭫ is the dashed partner of the solid , so in such a diagram it can read "goes up, but not directly" or "could go up", while reads "goes up".
In a message or a note, people who reach for it usually just want an up arrow with a slightly different look: a price expected to rise, a step back up a list, a "see above" pointer that doesn't look like the keyboard arrow. Its direction is unmistakable, and it carries no mood of its own.
Where does this odd arrow come from?
From Wingdings 3, a symbol font that shipped with Windows.
Wingdings 3 was a font of arrows, including whole families of triangle-headed arrows with solid and dashed shafts. Text set in such fonts only looked right while the font was installed; change the font and the arrows turned into other characters. So these symbols could be exchanged and searched as real text, Unicode encoded those shapes as characters in version 7.0 in 2014, and ⭫ is the dashed up arrow of that family, alongside left, right and down.
That origin is why it lives in the Miscellaneous Symbols and Arrows block rather than among the common arrows, and why it feels like a drawing element rather than punctuation: charts, labels and slides suit it best.
Neutral and technical; it belongs to charts and lists, not to feelings or jokes.
It is not an emoji: it may show as a box or blank on phones and in fonts without this block.

3Worth knowing
- Unicode 7.0 added hundreds of symbols in 2014, many of them from Wingdings and Webdings, so arrows, hands and shapes once locked inside those fonts became ordinary text characters.
- The triangle-headed arrow family comes in solid and dashed versions for all four directions, each a separate character.
Questions people ask
4Is ⭫ an emoji?
No. It is a text symbol with no emoji version, so it stays a plain arrow in your text font. If you want a coloured up arrow on a phone, use instead.
Why does ⭫ show as a box or a blank?
The font in use lacks this character. It sits in a less common Unicode block that many fonts skip. is the safest fallback, since lives in the same block as ⭫.
Does the dashed line actually mean something?
It depends on the diagram. In many notations a dashed arrow is the indirect, dependent or projected link and the solid one is the main link; check the key. In a casual message it is just an up arrow with a different look.
Which up arrow should I use in normal writing?
. It displays almost everywhere. Keep ⭫ for charts and lists where you want a dashed upward arrow beside a solid one.
