What ꋁ means
Use Yi input, enter cex, then choose ꋁ.
The input spelling is Liangshan Yi romanization: cex; its final x marks the secondary-high tone, a pitch pattern in the language. A standard Latin-key keyboard works once a Yi IME is active; without Yi input, typing cex leaves the Latin letters on screen.
What does cex mean by itself?
Cex names the syllable; it does not supply an English translation.
In standardized Yi writing, ꋁ represents the cex syllable of the Liangshan (Nuosu) dialect. The sign does not map to one English word; its meaning depends on the surrounding Yi text. This standard writes Liangshan Yi, not every variety of Yi.
Traditional Yi writing had local forms with different glyphs and directions; historical accounts call it Cuan or Wei. Despite Chinese influence, its signs apparently were not derived from Han characters. The oldest surviving dated inscription is on a bronze bell from 1485. Village bimo (ritual specialists) passed manuscripts down for religious, medical, magical and genealogical writing. One origin tradition credits Aki with devising the script in the Tang dynasty. Devised in 1974 and promulgated in 1980 to support literacy, the standardized Liangshan Yi syllabary adapted older forms, with one sign per allowable syllable. It is specific to Liangshan Yi.
Specialist script text, not a general chat reaction; send it alone only when a Yi reader expects an isolated character sample.
Outside that context, it can look like a stray character rather than a reply.
