What 𞥘 means
It represents the value eight in Adlam numbers.
In 1989, Guinean brothers Ibrahima and Abdoulaye Barry devised Adlam to fit Fula sounds. Ajami used Arabic letters for Fula but fit its sounds unevenly; earlier Fula Dita and Fula Ba saw little adoption. Adlam is distinct, though its direction and joining draw on Arabic writing. A-D-L-M abbreviates the Fula phrase “Alkule Dandaydhe Leñol Mulugol,” meaning “the alphabet that protects the people from vanishing.” Community teaching and books carried it beyond Guinea.
How do Adlam numbers run?
The highest place starts at the right.
Later digits continue left. Arabic-Indic digits, used in Arabic text, keep a left-to-right number order.
