What 𞥗 means
It is seven, written as a numeral. Adlam writes Fula, also called Fulani; the language is Pular or Pulaar in the west and Fulfulde in central and eastern regions.
Ibrahima and Abdoulaye Barry devised Adlam in Guinea in 1989 so Fula could have its own script. Earlier Fula writing used Ajami, Arabic letters adapted to the language, and regional Latin spellings without one shared standard. The brothers first called it Bindi Pular (“Pular writing”); Adlam abbreviates a Fulani phrase meaning “the alphabet that protects the peoples from vanishing.”
Why do Adlam numbers read right to left?
The highest-place digit sits at the right.
Arabic-script text also runs right to left, but its multi-digit numbers keep the highest-place digit on the left.
