Block Octant-1258

382/686

𜶃 fills four cells in an eight-part text mosaic. Kaypro computers running CP/M, an early operating system, used these tiles to draw pictures in text. The same 2 4 grid makes terminal charts or pixel art.

Text symbol

What 𜶃 means

It marks four filled cells in a 2 4 tile. The digits 1, 2, 5, and 8 name those positions.

Kaypro octant graphics let CP/M programs draw pictures with character cells, which could also be saved in text files. A 2021 Unicode proposal included older computer and teletext symbols (broadcast text and TV graphics) for conversion and emulation.
