Block Octant-1358

384/686

𜶅 is a mosaic tile with four filled cells in a 24 grid. Kaypro computers used octants to draw screen graphics with text, and the same grid can make compact terminal art.

Text symbol

What 𜶅 means

It turns one text cell into a tiny drawing surface.

A Kaypro 10 was an early personal computer. Its 1983 guide explains that each character cell held a 24 pixel grid; software switched tiny blocks on and off to draw images. This pattern came from Kaypro's graphics set. If a font lacks its glyph, it shows a fallback box; Microsoft added octants to Cascadia Code in 2024.

Questions people ask

1

Can I use 𜶅 in a Kaypro file?

Not directly. Kaypro software expected a byte from its own graphics set; this Unicode character maps to the Kaypro byte EA. A converter must translate it for an old program to read.
