block octant-578

Block Octant-578

It is one 2×4 tile used to draw with pixels inside a text screen. Kaypro used tiles like this for simple graphics; this exact pattern comes from its reverse character set, so alone it carries no standard message.

What 𜶻 means

It fills three of the eight squares in a screen tile.

The 1983 Kaypro 10 User’s Guide describes a two-column by four-row grid in each character cell and explains how to use its squares to draw on screen. Unicode’s mapping ties this exact pattern to Kaypro’s reverse set, byte 9F; its digits label the filled squares.

Why does 𜶻 show as a box?

If a box appears, your font or terminal may lack the glyph. As of 2026, emulator tests found uneven support for this Unicode supplement: some tested terminals drew octants, while others displayed none of its characters.
