Block Octant-58

379/686

𜶀 is a small block pattern for drawing with text characters. It fills two parts of an eight-part cell, letting a program use it as a coarse pixel.

Text symbol

What 𜶀 means

It lights two diagonally placed cells. They are the left cell in row three and the right cell in the bottom row of a 2 4 grid. Neighboring tiles can sketch a larger picture on a text screen.

A Kaypro 10 user guide from 1983 describes this graphics mode: each character cell, or place on the text screen, could represent eight pixels. The Kaypro normal character set maps this exact tile to byte E0; that legacy hardware value is not a Unicode input code.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜶀 show as a box on some devices?

It is recent: Unicode added it in version 16.0 (2024), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
