What 🬻 means
Five of six mini-cells are filled.
Its digits, 2 through 6, mark the filled positions; the upper-left stays blank. Neighbouring tiles meet edge-to-edge to make larger, pixel-like pictures.
Teletext, a British TV page service, was developed in the early 1970s and used 64 23 block patterns. France's Minitel, an interactive information service reached through phone lines, also used blocks like this from the early 1980s. A 2018 Unicode proposal gathered symbols from old computers and teletext so their graphics could be preserved and redrawn by emulators.
A technical tile for text-grid graphics.
Many default terminal fonts omit these symbols; some terminals draw them themselves, so support varies as of 2026.
Questions people ask
1Why does 🬻 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
