Calendar

📅 is the calendar emoji: it marks a date on your schedule — an appointment, event, reminder or deadline. It flags the when; the words beside it say what is happening and whether you are invited. The tiny printed date is artwork, not the event date.

What 📅 means

Think scheduling, not automatically an invitation. Beside a proposed day, 📅 helps arrange plans; beside an existing appointment, it works as a reminder. If someone sends only 📅, ask which date they mean.

Why does the calendar emoji show July 17?

That date is part of the design. Apple's artwork shows July 17, the day Apple announced its iCal calendar app in 2002 — the usual explanation for the choice. World Emoji Day is held on July 17 because that date appears on this emoji. In a 2026 artwork comparison, Google also showed July 17; Microsoft showed a generic month. Go by the date written in the message.

Practical shorthand for getting plans on the calendar.

📅 alone does not confirm an invitation.

Worth knowing

  • 📅 is a single code point, so it survives copying through almost anything — old databases, SMS gateways, printer drivers.

Questions people ask

1

Can I put 📅 on a save the date?

You can. It works as a visual cue beside a wedding or party announcement; spell out the month, as in "17 July 2026", so nobody swaps day and month.
