What 𑄻 means
It writes five in the native Chakma decimal system.
Use it for an ordinary quantity or as a native Chakma list counter. In this style, a full stop and a space follow each counter. Bengali digit ৫ can also mark five in Chakma writing, but it belongs to a different script.
What is known about the Chakma numeral tradition?
The Chakma script’s origin story mixes oral tradition and manuscript history.
A 2009 National Mission survey says the script’s exact origin could not be ascertained. It records an oral narrative song, or ballad, linking a named figure, Agartara, with a 9th-century expedition. The Chakma Autonomous District Council’s account, as of 2026, places the earliest written references it reports in the 10th century or later and describes palm-leaf manuscripts.
The same survey says Chakmas adopted Bengali counting while retaining their own numerals. Both sets of digits appear in Chakma contexts; Myanmar digits are also used for Tanchangya written in Chakma script. Orthography notes place Chakma in an early branch of the Mon-Burmese script family, tracing the family through Pallava, an older South Indian script. A 2009 survey also notes similarities to Khmer and southern Indian forms. These are script-family connections, not evidence that this exact digit came from one neighboring numeral.
Neutral and documentary; it marks a quantity in Chakma numeral writing.

Font coverage. As of 2026, the Institute of Policy Dynamics Linux package includes Noto Sans Chakma because Ubuntu’s built-in Noto fonts lack some glyphs its layout can produce. A font with Chakma coverage should display it.
