What 𑍪 means
It marks caturtha svara, the fourth named pitch. Svara means a named chant tone; the sign guides singing.
Grantha developed from Brahmi, an older Indian script, through Pallava letter forms used in South India; these appear in 4th-century CE inscriptions. Grantha’s modern form took shape after the 13th century CE. A 1985 Sāma Veda edition shows Tamil–Grantha digits above text as tone marks.
This combining mark attaches to a syllable or digit and should sit centered over it. Other Sāmaveda marks may appear beside it; fonts or renderers without Grantha support can misplace it.

1Why does 𑍪 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
