What ꣼ means
It marks an auspicious beginning: siddham, “may there be success.”
The sign represents siddham, meaning “accomplished,” and the wish siddhirastu, “may there be success.” Early inscriptions and manuscripts could begin with the written word; later records also used a symbol, sometimes followed by svasti, another auspicious formula.
This was a gradual change. During the Gupta period of ancient Indian history, the written word could appear alongside or give way to a monogram—a compact symbol standing in for the word. One copper-plate example of that symbolic form is dated to the 5th century.
Is ꣼ the Siddham script?
No. ꣼ is one Devanagari opening sign; Siddham is a separate script.
Siddham is a writing system from India that developed from Brahmi, an ancient Indian script. It carried Buddhist texts in Sanskrit, a classical South Asian language, across Central and East Asia, including China, Japan, and Korea. In Japan, the Shingon and Tendai Buddhist traditions use Siddham writing in ceremonial and ritual settings.
The shared name reflects a historical connection, but the characters belong to different scripts and are not interchangeable. Siddham has its own opening sign; seeing ꣼ alone does not identify a whole passage as Siddham.
What does ꣼ mean when sent alone?
Read it as a ceremonial or specialist reference.
On its own, ꣼ points to an auspicious invocation or a reference to the writing traditions around it; it does not say what the sender wishes success for. Ask which text or tradition they mean before reading it as a personal good-luck message.
Before a passage, its placement marks an auspicious opening. At the end of a section, it can be a less common variant use, so the surrounding text matters.
Formal and ceremonial; in a casual message, it suggests a specialist or historical reference.
By itself, ꣼ does not tell you whose success is being wished for.

Questions people ask
1Can ꣼ work like ordinary punctuation?
It is a textual mark, but its customary role is an auspicious invocation at a text's opening, not punctuation separating ordinary clauses.
