Down-Pointing Rifle

105/686

This rifle picture points down; it was a ready-made game sprite on the Sharp MZ-700 home computer. It carries that retro-computer drawing into digital text. Sent at someone, it can read as a threat.

What 𜱨 means

A ready-made game sprite aimed downward.

Released in 1982, the Sharp MZ-700 home computer stored 512 one-color 88 designs in a built-in chip. Its European alternate set—a second group of display symbols—placed this rifle with aliens, rockets, bombs and vehicles as ready-made game art. In 2021, a proposal to Unicode, the shared character system, included it among old-computer and teletext symbols to preserve older text and support emulators and text-mode art. The MZ display slot 57 is a separate code from its Unicode character ID.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜱨 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
