What ➞ means
Direction, the next step, or “this turns into that”.
You'll meet it in menu paths (“File ➞ Export”), before-and-after lines (“idea ➞ product”), numbered steps, headings and social-media bios that point toward a link. The heavier stroke adds no extra meaning; people pick it over the plain because it looks bolder and more designed.
Its look comes from print. Zapf Dingbats, a 1978 font of printer's ornaments by the German type designer Hermann Zapf, held stars, hands, checkmarks and dozens of arrows; “dingbat” is the printers' word for such small decorative pieces. Unicode copied that set into its Dingbats block, which is why there are about a dozen near-identical right arrows ( to ) differing only in head, shaft and weight.
Is ➞ an emoji?
No, it's an ordinary text character. The emoji arrow is , which phones draw as a coloured picture. ➞ stays black or whatever colour your text is, and each font draws its own version; if a font lacks it you may see an empty box. It rarely appears on phone emoji keyboards, which is why people search for it.
Neutral and a bit formal; looks like layout or design rather than a chat reaction.
