Horizontal Racing Car

𜲛 is a small racing-car picture from the built-in character set of Robotron’s Z9001 home computer, introduced in East Germany in 1984. The Unicode proposal classifies it as a game sprite—a small picture for an on-screen game object. The same Z9001 chart records 𜲜 as a vertical racing car; Unicode later preserved these computer graphics as text characters.

What 𜲛 means

𜲛 is the horizontal racing car. Unicode classifies it as an “other symbol” — Unicode's shelf for signs that are neither maths, money nor punctuation and files it in the Symbols for Legacy Computing Supplement block; this site shelves it under Lines & boxes.

Its appearance depends on the font and text styling.

How it is encoded

𜲛 is a single code point, U+1CC9B. In HTML that is 𜲛, and in CSS \1CC9B.

Why does 𜲛 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
