Vertical Racing Car

𜲜 is a pixel car graphic preserved from old home-computer character sets, where a program could show it as a text-screen picture. A 2021 Unicode proposal records earlier forms in character sets for Ohio Scientific computers and Robotron’s Z9001, from the mid-1970s to mid-1980s home-computer era. Robotron’s Z9001 set also included a horizontal racing car, 𜲛.

What 𜲜 means

𜲜 is the vertical racing car. Unicode classifies it as an “other symbol” — Unicode's shelf for signs that are neither maths, money nor punctuation and files it in the Symbols for Legacy Computing Supplement block; this site shelves it under Lines & boxes.

Its appearance depends on the font and text styling.

How it is encoded

𜲜 is a single code point, U+1CC9C. In HTML that is 𜲜, and in CSS \1CC9C.

Why does 𜲜 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
