What 𘬏 means
A 2010 scholarly index labels its entry “Unknown-6.” A 2016 Unicode mapping links that entry to 𘬏.
Khitan phonetic characters usually combine into word-sized clusters, so an isolated glyph may not give you a complete word.
How did Khitan small script develop?
Traditional accounts credit Yelü Diela with creating the script in 924/925. A 2026 study argues it was standardized later under Shengzong, a Liao ruler, to support imperial administration.
The oldest securely dated surviving inscription is a tomb text from 1051. The traditional 924/925 account links its forms to Chinese characters and reports influence from the Uyghur script, used to write Uyghur. It stood beside the separate Khitan Large Script. A 2017 catalogue lists a Jin-period tomb inscription from 1175. Jurchen small script, dated to 1138, drew on Khitan models; its few surviving inscriptions share this cluster layout.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘬏 show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
