What 𘭋 means
Context decides how to read it. Khitan Small Script uses word signs (logograms) and sound signs (phonograms). Sound signs usually cluster; logograms can stand alone. Its code-based name does not supply a reading.
How was Khitan Small Script used?
It was made to write Khitan under the Liao. Yelü Diela devised it around 925, drawing on Chinese character forms and Uyghur writing principles. The earliest dated surviving inscription is a 1053 epitaph for Yelü Zongjiao. Khitan script served for official records, monuments, poems, and translations. Jurchen writers adapted its models for their own scripts; Jin officials abolished it in 1191.
How do vertical groups read?
Columns read down, starting at the right. Within phonetic clusters, read signs left to right, then down. Original texts use narrow gaps between groups; modern transcriptions use spaces.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘭋 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
