What 𘭰 means
The 2024 comparison gives no established individual reading.
The 2024 comparison lists 𘭰 as entry 88 in two inventories, without a word meaning or reconstructed sound. Khitan Small Script uses whole-word signs and groups of sound signs, so context reveals a sign's role. A blank box means the font may lack 𘭰; clusters need software that stacks signs.
When was Khitan Small Script created?
Its traditional creation date is disputed.
Tradition credits Yelü Diela with creating it around 925 to write Khitan, using Chinese character shapes and reportedly drawing on sound-writing ideas from the Uyghur alphabet.
A 2026 study questions that date: the earliest securely dated surviving inscription is a 1051 epitaph. Liao used the script for records and poems. Under Jin, Jurchens modeled their scripts on the Khitan pair; Jin authorities banned Khitan writing in 1191.
