What 𘮄 means
The numbered label is an identifier, not a gloss. The script uses logograms (whole-word signs) and phonograms (sound signs); phonograms often group to spell a word. The label cannot show which role 𘮄 plays; a text example is needed.
When was Khitan Small Script created?
Traditional accounts date its creation around 925. They credit Yelü Diela, brother of the Liao dynasty’s founder; a 2026 study questions the date’s certainty.
It wrote Khitan alongside Khitan Large Script, drawing on Chinese character forms and Uyghur sound-writing principles, though the signs look different. Stone epitaphs—memorial texts for the dead—preserve much of its record. After the Liao dynasty fell, official use continued under the Jin dynasty until an order ended it in 1191. The Jurchen later adapted Khitan models for their own scripts.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘮄 show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
