What 𘮞 means
The dot marks its masculine form.
A dotted logogram (word-sign) marks masculine gender; its undotted partner may be feminine or gender-neutral. Logograms stand alone; sound-signs cluster into words.
Tradition credits Yelü Diela and dates the script to around 925. Its shapes draw on Chinese characters; its sound system is linked to the Uyghur script used by Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples farther west. A 2026 study argues systematization and wider adoption came later, under Liao Emperor Shengzong; the earliest securely dated surviving text is Wugulin Taishi’s 1051 tomb epitaph. The Jurchen-founded Jin dynasty kept Khitan writing official until 1191; Jurchen scripts later followed Khitan models.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘮞 show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
