left-pointing roller coaster car

Left-Pointing Roller Coaster Car

𜲢 is a tiny left-facing car from the European Sharp MZ-700 character set. In 1983, British Sharp dealer Knights of Aberdeen helped expand the UK export model’s built-in set to 512 characters, including cars and game figures; Unicode maps this sprite to slot A2 beside its separate right-facing partner 𜲣 at A3. Each picture occupied one text character, so it served as game-screen art; “roller coaster car” describes its shape.

What 𜲢 means

𜲢 is the left-pointing roller coaster car. Unicode classifies it as an “other symbol” — Unicode's shelf for signs that are neither maths, money nor punctuation and files it in the Symbols for Legacy Computing Supplement block; this site shelves it under Lines & boxes.

Its appearance depends on the font and text styling.

How it is encoded

𜲢 is a single code point, U+1CCA2. In HTML that is 𜲢, and in CSS \1CCA2.

Why does 𜲢 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
