What 🢨 means
From Wingdings 3, a Windows symbol font.
Wingdings fonts shipped with Windows 3.1 in 1992 and fill countless old slides, worksheets and office signs. Wingdings 3 is the arrow set: plain, outlined, curved and these perspective arrows with shadows. Its name spells the drawing: pointing left, “back-tilted” (the top edge leans away, like an arrow painted on the floor) and “shadowed white” (a hollow shape with a dark shadow).
Those font symbols were really ordinary letters wearing a costume. A 2011 proposal brought the Wingdings and Webdings shapes into Unicode, and this arrow got its own code point, so it is text in its own right. Its typical job is the same as on a slide: back, previous, go left.
Why does my arrow turn into a b?
Because you typed b in the Wingdings 3 font.
In Wingdings 3, the lowercase b key draws this arrow. The file still holds the letter b, so in another font, on a phone or in a message the reader sees just “b”. To send an arrow that survives anywhere, insert 🢨 itself from a character picker; it then needs a font that includes it, or it shows as a box.
Neutral and visual: a decorative pointer, at home on slides, handouts and signs.
Font-version arrows become plain letters for anyone without Wingdings 3.

3Questions people ask
2Why do I see an empty box?
Your font has no drawing for it. The character is fine; a font with wide symbol coverage will show it.
Is it an emoji?
No. It is a text symbol drawn in the colour of the surrounding text, with no emoji version.
