What 🠼 means
Enter 🠼 as Unicode text.
In an editor that accepts code points, enter U1F83C; the keystroke varies by app and operating system. A font swap works differently: it changes how another character looks and depends on Wingdings 3.
What does 🠼 mean?
It points left unless notation gives it a narrower job.
A 2011 Unicode proposal identifies it as the L7 Wingdings 3 arrow, glyph ID 3189. The proposal says the original Wingdings fonts first appeared with Windows 3.1 in 1992.
The 2011 proposal gave the old font design a stable, searchable Unicode identity; the wider arrow family also preserves symbols used in older computing, including some notation in the Smalltalk programming language. One draft listed provisional U1F844 for the compressed arrow; the family was later rearranged, leaving U1F83C as its final value.
Why does 🠼 look different across fonts?
Fonts draw the character in their own styles.
Unicode's reference shape does not dictate every font's design. Installed fonts and browser choices affect whether 🠼 appears and how it looks. A blank box means the selected font lacks its glyph; another compact arrow may still be the same character. Use a font with coverage, or choose when consistent display matters.
Technical and typographic, with an older-computing feel; its first reading is directional.
A missing-glyph box hides the arrow's direction.
