What 🠺 means
It points right: direction, flow, or the next step.
In a diagram, it can connect two items or mark what follows. Alone in a message, it is a pointer without a fixed target or emotional tone; read the surrounding text.
Microsoft released Wingdings in 1992 as a symbol font for computer and interface icons. A 2011 Unicode proposal labels the J6 design “squared arrow” and discusses bringing font-specific symbols into Unicode; this design became standard text in 2014. The change made it text rather than an instruction to use a particular font, while its basic rightward meaning stayed the same.
Why does 🠺 look wrong?
A font draws it; the character does not carry emoji artwork.
Without a font that supports 🠺, you may see an empty box; supporting fonts can also draw its weight and proportions differently. A 2021 report found direct entry failed in a basic pdfLaTeX setup, a typesetting-tool issue rather than a different arrow.
Right-to-left text does not automatically reverse this arrow: it still means rightward. In a right-to-left layout, use it only when the intended direction is right.
Neutral and technical; it reads like diagram punctuation or a typographic pointer.
A lone arrow does not guarantee a command or reaction; check the surrounding message.

1Questions people ask
3Is 🠺 an emoji?
No. It is a Unicode text character, so the font supplies its drawing instead of emoji artwork.
Why does a Wingdings 3 chart show another arrow code?
A symbol-font chart may show a font slot or legacy label rather than a Unicode character. The Unicode proposal calls the J6 design “squared arrow”; 🠺 is its standardized text form.
Can I send 🠺 in a message?
Yes. It is Unicode text, though someone whose font lacks it may see a fallback box.

A visible symbol can contain several code points. JS .length counts UTF-16 units; UTF-8 counts bytes.
