What means
It filled one small piece of a picture on the text screen. In the Robotron Z9001 character set, code F6 identified this graphic. The Z9001 appeared in 1984; its screen used a grid of character cells, and a dedicated GRAPHIC key switched to the graphic-character mode.
Those block graphics formed pseudo-graphics: pictures built from text characters rather than plotted pixel by pixel. Unicode, the standard that gives text characters stable identities across devices, includes the legacy tile so conversions and emulators can preserve the old character data.

Questions people ask
1Why does this block symbol appear as a blank square?
Your font or text renderer probably lacks a drawing for it. As of 2026, some terminal emulators draw legacy-computing characters themselves, so one terminal may show the shape while another shows a blank square.
