Text symbol

What 𜲼 means

It comes from an old computer's four-part king picture. The 2021 Unicode mapping proposal traces 𜲼 to the European alternate display set for Sharp's MZ-700, released in 1982. Four king quadrants could combine into an image larger than one 8-by-8-pixel character cell.

On the MZ-700, the second screen character set was selected through video memory—the memory controlling the screen—not with a keyboard key.

Combination ideas

1
Arrange the four quadrants in a 22 layout to rebuild the old king picture.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜲼 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
