What 𜲪 means

Each character held one tile of the original picture.

The Sharp MZ smiley came from the European alternate display set; on the MZ-700, released in 1982, this tile occupied position 95 (hex).

Its original job was screen graphics. In 2021, Unicode's proposal aimed to let old character data move between systems unchanged and support emulator software.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜲪 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
