What did do on Sharp MZ computers?
It helped turn a text grid into a simple picture. The glyph traces to display code F4 in the Japanese primary character set for Sharp MZ computers. This tile was one of the ready-made pieces in the drawing set; Unicode keeps its role for compatibility and text-based graphics.
