Separated Block Sextant-13456

𜺍 is a separated mosaic tile for low-resolution graphics, with five of six cells filled and narrow gaps around them. Teletext—text-and-graphics pages sent to television—used this kind of tile; digits 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 mark the filled positions, leaving 2 blank.

What 𜺍 means

Every position except 2 is filled. The digits follow the six cells of a two-column, three-row grid, read row by row. Set beside other mosaic tiles, this pattern contributes one patch to rough artwork or a chart.

Why are there gaps between the cells?

In the 1970s, Teletext pages used mosaic tiles for weather maps, graphs, and charts.

The 1974 Broadcast Teletext specification defined two display styles: contiguous cells touch; in separated mode, each cell sits inside a border of background colour.

In 2021, a Unicode proposal called for these separated patterns to have individual characters, so Teletext emulators and older software could retain them. Some programs had assigned their own private-use code points—reserved slots for local definitions—to these tiles.

Why does 𜺍 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
