separated block sextant-3

Separated Block Sextant-3

𜹔 is one cell in a six-part mosaic, set apart by a narrow gap. Its pattern preserves Teletext’s spaced style for simple television graphics, and text graphics can use each cell as a pixel.

What 𜹔 means

One cell in the lower-left position of a 2×3 mosaic.

Here “sextant” means six cells in two columns and three rows; 3 marks the lower-left tile.

Why does this mosaic leave gaps?

They preserve Teletext’s separated-graphics mode.

Teletext began in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s, sending information pages and simple graphics to television. The separated-graphics mode left a narrow gap between 2×3 tiles; separate characters let emulators reproduce it and preserve older text encoded with private-use codes—numbers reserved for software-specific characters. As of September 2026, support varies by font and terminal, so an unsupported app may show a missing glyph.

Why does 𜹔 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
