What 𜺄 means

In Word, enter 1CE84 and press Alt+X. In GTK text fields, press Ctrl+Shift+U, enter 1ce84, then Enter.

A sextant is a character cell divided into two columns and three rows; its numbers run across each row, and 356 fills the middle-left and two lower blocks. Teletext carried pages of text and simple graphics over TV broadcasts.

The BBC's CEEFAX information service began experimental transmissions on 12 March 1973; early mosaic pages used weather maps. After CEEFAX launched in September 1974, staff used mosaics for headings and logos, and artists made full-page pictures. In 1970s teletext, a control instruction switched between touching and separated cells; this character preserves the gapped form.

Why does 𜺄 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
