What means
The gaps preserve teletext’s separated-graphics mode. Teletext developed in the UK in the early 1970s to broadcast text and simple block pictures to analog TVs. A sextant divides a character cell into two columns and three rows; “236” names its lit cells.
Teletext controls switched mosaic rows between joined and separated display. This Unicode character stores the separated pattern directly, preserving it for old software and emulators. Neighboring sextants form low-resolution pictures like chunky pixels.
