What 𘪋 means

Enter U18A8B in a Unicode-aware editor.

This code point is outside the Basic Multilingual Plane, so direct entry may require an editor's Unicode code-point input. The font must also include Tangut characters; without that coverage, the editor may show a box.

What does Tangut Component-652 mean?

It marks a structural part used to index Tangut characters.

A Tangut radical or component is a piece that dictionaries and researchers use to classify, describe, and analyze larger characters. The modern component inventory combines systems from different dictionaries and publications because no single standard set was used. 𘪋 can therefore appear alone in an analysis note without being a standalone word.

Why was the Tangut script made?

It served Tangut government and Buddhist translation.

The Tangut script, also called the Xixia script, took shape in 1036 under Emperor Li Yuanhao as part of building the Western Xia state. It served administration and correspondence; a committee for translating Buddhist sutras was formed in 1038.

Manuscripts preserved at the ruins of Khara-Khoto, a Tangut city, include Chinese works translated into Tangut alongside Buddhist texts. They cover Confucian learning, military affairs, encyclopedias, and literature; one fragment probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century. Tangut writing drew on Chinese writing principles and neighboring Khitan models while remaining a distinct script.

Technical notation for indexing and analyzing Tangut character structure.
