In a message, it is usually a flourish.
A twelve-point star is also called a dodecagram; ✹ can serve as a star divider or accent.
Persian manuscripts use shamsa, sun-shaped rosettes, on opening pages, to frame inscriptions, and in page margins. Related geometric stars appear in Islamic architecture and on barns decorated by German-speaking communities in Pennsylvania. Depending on the object, they suggest a sunburst, the calendar year, apostles or tribes, or simple ornament. A plain ✹ does not show which meaning a sender intends.
Formal-looking, deliberate, and more ornamental than a plain star.
Is ✹ religious? No. Twelve points alone do not identify one faith or doctrine.
