Upper Centre Left One Sixteenth Block

652/686

𜺑 is one small filled square in an old computer’s character cell—the screen space where a single letter appears—just above and left of centre. It belongs to semigraphics, the blocky screen drawing used on early computers. The Robotron Z9001 set used it as graphics code D1; that computer was introduced in 1984.

What 𜺑 means

It was a preset tile for building pictures on a character-cell screen. “One-sixteenth” is literal: imagine the screen space for one character divided into a 44 grid. This glyph fills just one square in that grid.

Semigraphics means drawing with ready-made text shapes instead of setting every screen pixel separately. The placement matters: sibling tiles fill different positions and together make a finer screen pattern.

Why does 𜺑 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
