Upper Left One Sixteenth Block

651/686

𜺐 fills the upper-left one-sixteenth of a text cell. Block graphics let fixed-width screens draw pictures from cell fragments; this fine tile extends that older method.

What 𜺐 means

On a fixed-width screen, each letter sits in a same-sized character cell. 𜺐 fills just one of its sixteen small squares; neighboring pieces can form larger shapes.

Cell graphics came first. British teletext used 23 mosaics for TV pages from the early 1970s; France's Minitel, a phone-line information service introduced in the early 1980s, also used block graphics. This finer 44 tile joined Unicode in 2024.
