Upper-right TV tile

𜲳 is the upper-right tile of a four-character TV picture; three matching tiles complete the icon. It comes from the European display set of Sharp’s MZ-700, a Japanese home computer.

What 𜲳 means

It is one corner tile in a larger screen drawing.

A 2021 Unicode proposal traces it to the MZ-700’s European alternate display set, a separate collection of screen drawings. The four TV tiles fit in a 22 grid.

The MZ-700 manual says its second screen-symbol set could not be entered from the keyboard. A BASIC program could display its drawings with POKE, a command that writes a value into memory.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜲳 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
