What 𜲵 means

It is the lower-right tile of a four-cell television drawing.

With three matching cells in a 2×2 grid, it completes the old TV picture.

Why did the MZ-700 character set include a TV?

Its screen was built from text cells, not freely drawn graphics.

A 1983 Personal Computer World article says British designers expanded Sharp’s planned European set from 256 to 512 characters, adding game art, technical signs, a TV, and the MZ-700 itself.

The 2021 Unicode proposal aimed to keep old character data usable in modern software and computer emulators that imitate those machines.

Why does 𜲵 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
