Upper Right Twelfth Circle

52/686

𜰳 is an upper-right circle arc in the Sharp MZ European display set. Unicode preserves it so old character data and emulator screens can retain the original graphic.

Text symbol

What 𜰳 means

A ready-made tile for text-mode pictures.

The Sharp MZ European primary table maps its display slot to byte 9F. Its 8-by-8 character-ROM pattern supplied this upper-right arc as one screen cell.

Why preserve it?

To keep old display data portable.

Unicode's legacy-computing proposal aimed to let files round-trip between these computers and Unicode, and to help emulators reproduce their screens. Its source platforms date roughly from the mid-1970s to mid-1980s.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜰳 show as a box?

Missing glyph. A font needs its own drawing for this character; otherwise the app may show an empty box. Microsoft said on April 30, 2024, its Cascadia Code update added more legacy-computing symbols, but fonts still need this exact glyph.
