What 🠕 means
It means “up”: movement, increase, or a higher step. In a message, nearby words show whether the up arrow marks direction, a rising value, or the next stage.
Why does 🠕 look different from ?
Its geometric head is part of its typographic design. This extended arrow set varies direction and head size, and the active font draws the exact character.
Arrow symbols have field-specific histories: in manuscripts, arrow-shaped marks linked notes to the main text; seventeenth-century maps used arrows for stream flow and movement. Wordless arrows were rare in print before the eighteenth century; a 1737 waterwheel diagram uses them for flow and rotation. In mathematical logic, arrows can express implication, and older computer symbol sets helped bring extended arrow families into Unicode. These examples belong to the wider arrow tradition; this glyph is a typographic variant with a geometric head.
Technical, neutral, and diagram-like; it signals direction or progression rather than emotion.
For critical instructions, use a familiar arrow; this one can show as a box if the font lacks it.

2Why did 🠕 turn into a box?
Font-dependent. The character is in the text, but the active font may not be able to draw it; choose a font that supports it.
Is 🠕 an emoji?
No. It is a text symbol whose appearance comes from the font, not vendor emoji artwork.
