down-pointing rocket ship

Down-Pointing Rocket Ship

𜱙 is the downward-facing member of a four-direction set of home-computer game sprites. These small game pictures came from character sets for machines made in the mid-1970s to mid-1980s; a 2021 proposal aimed to preserve them when old text was converted into Unicode and back. It cross-references this design with separate downwards-facing and general rocket symbols. Unicode's chart is only a shape example, so fonts can draw its outline differently.

What 𜱙 means

𜱙 is the down-pointing rocket ship. Unicode classifies it as an “other symbol” — Unicode's shelf for signs that are neither maths, money nor punctuation and files it in the Symbols for Legacy Computing Supplement block; this site shelves it under Lines & boxes.

Its appearance depends on the font and text styling.

How it is encoded

𜱙 is a single code point, U+1CC59. In HTML that is 𜱙, and in CSS \1CC59.

Why does 𜱙 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
