up-pointing rocket ship

Up-Pointing Rocket Ship

88/686

𜱗 is an up-pointing rocket sprite from old home-computer character sets. It appears in the Amstrad CPC and Sharp MZ European alternate set; its Unicode character lets old text keep the graphic when converted.

What 𜱗 means

To keep it intact in text from older computers.

Character tables—the built-in symbols a machine could display—map the Amstrad CPC rocket to byte EF and the Sharp MZ European alternate set to code 3F. Those are old machine storage values, not modern typing shortcuts. Unicode preserves these graphics so text can move between legacy computers and Unicode without losing them.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜱗 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
