What ⁕ means
It marks poetry in Syloti Nagri and section endings in Newa.
Syloti Nagri writes Sylheti; Newa writes Nepal Bhasa. In Newa, the paired upright marks 𑑌 usually flank ⁕ at a section’s end.
Unicode, the standard that gives digital identities to characters, reviewed it in 2003: “Syloti Nagri Sign Ful” became “Eight-Pointed Asterisk,” then “Flower Punctuation Mark,” since the glyph is not always eight-pointed. Separate European fleurons—flower-shaped printer’s ornaments—were used by the early sixteenth century for headings, book divisions, and head- or tailpieces; that parallel tradition does not establish ⁕’s origin.
