garay digit six

Garay digit six

𐵆 is Garay's numeral for six, in a script created for writing Wolof. Assane Faye developed Garay in Senegal; Arabic writing influenced its right-to-left flow, while digits inside a number still run left to right.

What 𐵆 means

It represents six.

Garay was developed in Senegal by Assane Faye to write Wolof; it first appeared in publications in January 1961. Faye aimed to make it easier for people familiar with Arabic writing, whose influence helps explain Garay's right-to-left direction.

That influence does not make Garay Wolofal: Wolofal is a separate way to write Wolof with Arabic letters. Faye's beginner teaching books, maps, folktales and Qur'an translation show Garay's early use for teaching and manuscripts.

Why does a Garay number look reversed?

**The text directions differ.** Garay text runs right to left, but digits within a number run left to right. In mixed-direction paragraphs, set the paragraph direction to right to left so the layout places the number correctly.
