What ე means
It represents the Georgian vowel written as e. The name eni identifies the letter; it is not the sound you pronounce each time you meet it in a word. This Georgian e is a spelling character, not an emoji.
Is ე an old Georgian letter?
This is the modern form of a historically evolving letter. Its earlier Asomtavruli form belongs to the Georgian script used for monumental inscriptions. Early examples of that script include the Bolnisi Sioni inscriptions, dated 493–494. Nuskhuri, a later manuscript script, connects that tradition to everyday Mkhedruli writing.
The scripts also differ in setting. In 2016, older forms remained in church worship, religious images called icons, and specialist study, while Mkhedruli served general education and everyday writing.
Neutral: ე spells a vowel rather than setting a conversational tone.
A lone ე needs context; do not assume it expresses an emotion.
