What 𘮘 means
The Unicode name labels the glyph, not its Khitan reading.
Khitan writing mixes logograms (word-signs) with phonograms (sound-signs); the generic label does not tell which role 𘮘 plays in a text.
Why was Khitan Small Script created?
It fit Khitan’s word structure better than the large script.
Traditional accounts credit Yelü Diela, the Khitan ruler’s younger brother, with creating it around 925 CE. A 2026 study argues wider adoption came later; the earliest securely dated surviving inscription is from 1051.
Khitan Small Script drew on Chinese character forms and Uyghur script principles. It appears on tomb inscriptions and monuments; later Jurchen scripts adapted Khitan models. Logograms may stand alone; phonograms form clusters of two to eight characters, ordered left to right then top to bottom inside vertical columns ordered right to left.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘮘 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
